We had ćevapi for supper one night in Split — partly because we were hungry, partly because Kantun Paulina was less than a five-minute walk from where we were staying. And honestly? It hit the spot.
Ćevapi are small, grilled sausages made from a blend of meats, served in warm somun flatbread with chopped raw onions and ajvar, a rich red pepper spread. No utensils, no extras. Just a few ingredients done right.

Kantun Paulina is a no-frills shop on a side street in Split’s Old Town, but the locals already know it’s a go-to. We grabbed our food, walked back through the narrow streets, and had one of the most satisfying (and budget-friendly) meals of the trip.
Sometimes the best meals happen when you’re not planning for them, and ćevapi is one of those Croatian comfort foods you’ll crave again before you even leave town.
